Small Business Banking & Financing Editor
Judith Armstrong has 17 years in commercial banking and small business finance, having managed SBA loan portfolios at Bank of America and later serving as VP of Small Business Lending at TD Bank. She holds an MBA from Wharton and is a Certified Business Banker (CBB). Judith has helped over 2,000 small businesses secure financing through SBA 7(a) loans, lines of credit, and equipment financing. Her guides cut through the jargon of business credit scores, DSCR requirements, and treasury management for entrepreneurs.
Managing SBA loan portfolios at Bank of America meant Judith reviewed thousands of applications, and she saw the same avoidable rejections repeat: undocumented owner draws, personal and business finances commingled in one account, and debt-service coverage ratios that looked fine on a spreadsheet but fell apart once seasonal revenue dips were factored in. She writes to help business owners fix those issues before a lender ever sees the application.
As VP of Small Business Lending at TD Bank, she also worked closely with newer entrepreneurs who had strong businesses but thin business credit files — a gap that often pushes owners toward personal guarantees or higher-rate alternative lenders unnecessarily. Judith's coverage of business credit building, equipment financing structures, and line-of-credit versus term-loan tradeoffs comes directly from those conversations.
