Our Commitment
We believe financial literacy should be accessible to all Americans, including people with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities. We continually work to improve the accessibility of our website and apply the latest accessibility standards to new and updated content.
Conformance Status
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the internationally recognized standard for digital accessibility. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities.
What We Have Implemented
- Semantic HTML structure: Proper heading hierarchy (H1–H6), landmark elements (
<nav>,<main>,<footer>), and logical document structure for screen readers - Alternative text: Descriptive
altattributes on all informational images; decorative images markedalt="" - Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements (links, buttons, forms) accessible via Tab, Enter, Space, and arrow keys — no mouse required
- Visible focus indicators: Clear focus outlines on all interactive elements for keyboard and switch-access users
- Color contrast: Minimum 4.5:1 contrast ratio for normal text; 3:1 for large text (18px+ or 14px bold)
- Text resize: Content remains readable and usable at up to 200% browser zoom without horizontal scrolling
- Color-independent information: Icons and text labels supplement color so information is never conveyed by color alone
- ARIA labels: Applied on interactive components where HTML semantics alone are insufficient
- Language declared:
lang="en"set on the<html>element of all pages - Descriptive link text: All links have meaningful text — no "click here" or "read more" without context
Compatible Assistive Technologies
Our site is designed to be compatible with:
- Screen readers: NVDA and JAWS (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), TalkBack (Android)
- Browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge — current and previous major version
- Input methods: Keyboard-only navigation, switch access, voice control (Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Voice Control on macOS/iOS)
- Display modes: High contrast mode, forced colors mode, reduced motion
Known Limitations
- Some older articles (pre-2024) may have incomplete
alttext on images. We are auditing and correcting these progressively. - Some third-party advertising content is served by external partners and falls outside our direct control. We require partners to meet accessibility standards.
- Complex financial data tables in some articles may require additional context for screen reader users. We are reviewing and improving these.
